Blue Skies is the first self-produced release from Sonny Winnebago. It's about hardship, friendship & ownership of your own happiness! The lyrics describe the introspective & challenging thoughts surrounding a quarter life crisis.
"It's all a lie" opens the song with a dramatically demoralised view of adulthood. Sonny's brand of existential lyricism over such a cheerfully sunny backdrop makes for a fun & disarming listening experience.
The inner turmoil of the first verse resolves at the chorus. "I'll be shaking with those sassy old souls I really love, 'cause there's no other feeling in the skies above"
Sonny makes a point that the cure for overthinking is to be with your mates. It's a nice simple message that comes from the heart...

“It's been so much fun to explore the world of music production. It's broadened my mindset in such a powerful way. I started learning to produce by making beats! It's one of the most fun and satisfying ways to make music - just playing in a soundscape of your own creation. It's helped me to understand the power of groove, and has given me a decent historical knowledge of how genres like House & UK Garage came to be. I've always loved the playfulness and energy of acts like Fatboy Slim & Basement Jaxx, and I hope to be able to incorporate their kind of tongue-in-cheek elements into future productions - stepping away from a wholly acoustic palette. As for other artists I gravitate towards, John Carroll Kirby & Andy Shauf do a lot for me. There's a tenderness and unrelenting joy to their creations, and I'm smitten that I've been able to find real & colourful people for me to look up to. I feel like that's important for any creative. I've tried to incorporate all my favourite little sounds into Blue Skies, from my £20 nylon string acoustic guitar, to my inherited Technics PCM EX60 Organ... I even roped my classically trained sister into singing backing vocals - go team!
The transition from musician to producer has been a natural progression. I'm always moving further into a cultivated mindset of sonic exploration, creative liberation and joyful collaboration. I'm so pleased to be releasing Blue Skies, and I can't wait to show you all what I'm working on next.
